ELTON JOHN ""HONOREE" - 27th KENNEDY CENTER HONORS, 2004

ROBERT DOWNEY, JR., introduces honoree ELTON JOHN at the 27th Kennedy Center Honors awards ceremony, 2004. Performers paying tribute to Elton are BILLY JOEL, FANTASIA, KID ROCK, AND HEATHER HEADLEY. The other honorees this evening are Warren Beatty, Ossie Davis & Ruby Dee, Joan Sutherland, and John Williams. I have posted the other honorees separately. This is the year that Walter Cronkite relinquished his position as "Master of Ceremonies". See my video "Walter Cronkite 'surrenders' his position at Kennedy Center Honors to Caroline Kennedy".

I managed to save these comments from my previous posting of this video:

He did dance us into the night and sang us home.  I lived it.   A wonderful time for music if you were in your teens at the time.

Elton got his huge break playing piano for LaBelle as their pianist. When they were on vacation Elton aka Reginald got a recording contract and had a gig at spectrum in Philadelphia he invited Patti to come see his show and she they say was amazed shocked and awestruck that Reggie was now Elton John. I love that story
